What is the International Trombone Association?
The International Trombone Association is the largest association of trombonists with 4,000 members from 69 countries. Formed in 1972, ITA is a registered non-profit organization and our mission is to promote the trombone and all trombone-related activities across the world.
What does the International Trombone Association do?
ITA undertakes numerous activities to further its mission:
- producing the quarterly magazine, ITA Journal
- presenting the annual International Trombone Festival - the world’s largest trombone festival
- organizing the ITA Solo & Ensemble Competitions and Composition Contest Competition
- endowing the ITA Award and Neill Humfeld Award
- publishing trombone sheet music through the ITA Press
- commissioning new trombone music from eminent composers
- managing the Assist an International Member membership sponsorship program
- publishing the ITA website: www.trombone.net
- promoting the Trombone through the annual International Trombone Week
Why should I join?
ITA Journal
This handsome 80-page magazine, published quarterly, is the
definitive and only publication of its kind for trombone
professionals and enthusiasts. Reflecting the diversity
of the trombone, it includes orchestral excerpt articles
from the world's leading performers, interviews and features
with international trombone soloists and teachers, Dr.
Edward Wolff and his column addressing medical issues associated
with trombone playing, reviews of the latest trombone CD
and sheet music releases, research articles, news, job
announcements, etc. ITA members receive the ITA Journal
free with their membership.
International Trombone Festival
The International Trombone Festival (ITF) is taking place annually
across the world. Past locations have included the United
States, England, Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, & Finland.
Attracting over 1000 people including performers, exhibitors
and delegates, ITF represents the finest in trombone performance
and pedagogy. Artists are represented in all fields and
from all countries. Sessions include mass trombone warm-ups,
recitals, clinics, masterclasses, concerts, Q&A sessions,
late night jazz, trombone exhibits, and the opportunity
to meet old friends and make new ones. As an ITA member,
you'll receive a discount off registration rates and
priority booking information.

Discounted Musical Instrument Insurance
ITA has teamed up with Clarion Insurance to offer our members
a 40& discount on instrument insurance. The policy includes
world-wide coverage, business interruption, replacement
instruments, inflation guard, a 24 claim help-line and
has been specifically designed to cover those eventualities
not normally protected on household policies.
SmartMusic Discount
ITA members can purchase a discounted subscription to the interactive, computer-based practice system SmartMusic
for just $25 a year (regularly $100). In addition, educator
members can extend this offer to their students.
Recordings Database
A database of over 900 trombone recordings is available just for members
in our members area. You can search by composer, title or artist - ideal for
teachers and students looking to expand their knowledge of the repertoire.
Coupon Books, CDs, Special Offers
As an ITA member, you are able to take advantage of numerous
special offers. These have included two free CDs by Alain
Trudel and Joe Alessi, a coupon book offering discounts
at fifteen of the world's leading trombone retailers and

Ask the Experts
Ask the Experts is a new online forum where members can put
questions on the trombone and trombone-related matters
to our resident panel of experts including some of the
finest and most respected names in trombone performance
and pedagogy.
ITA Website
The ITA website is one of the leading trombone sites on the
net and receives over 1,000,000 unique visitors each year.
It contains information on all the association's activities
and also the very latest in trombone news, events, jobs,
auditions, etc. The Members Only section gives access to
