Bones Apart

Bones Apart

Bones Apart consists of four young professional female trombonists who studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. The quartet formed in 1998 and the members are Carol Jarvis, Becky Smith, Rebecca Harper and Camilla Tveit. The quartet recently won the prestigious Royal Over Seas League Competition (the Rio Tinto Ensemble Prize & Miller Trophy) against all other young chamber groups in the country. The panel, headed by Lady Barbirolli OBE, came to a unanimous decision and their future engagements include recitals in Edinburgh and St. Martin-in-the-Fields. Bones Apart received the Philip Jones Award, as well as being awarded a Distinction for their Professional Performance diploma from the RNCM.

They have performed recitals at British and International Trombone Festivals, including Repton, Glasgow and Utrecht (the Netherlands). Earlier this year the quartet completed a successful tour of Norway, and they have performed all over the UK, including Jersey and the Isle of Man.

Bones Apart has presented many concerts around the country, including at home at the RNCM. They have become familiar with the front covers of newspapers and magazines and they have performed on many radio stations and television programs. Their appearance on the ITV television program This Morning with Richard and Judy was extremely successful, and brought them many more varied engagements and promoted their debut CD Out and About. Cala Records are currently negotiating a deal with the Quartet for the next Bones Apart CD.

Being dedicated to the development of live music in the community they have established strong relationships with schools countrywide, performing their educational, yet fun show to children. They took part in the BBC Music Live festival helping to bring more live music to the public and recently won themselves a place on Yehudi Menuhin’s Live Music Now! Scheme.

They have taken part in master classes and performed with some of the foremost trombonists and brass musicians in the world, including Dave Taylor, Bob Tucci, Mark Nightingale, John Kenny, Roger Argente, Ronald Barron, Nils Wogram, Alistair White, Bela Szaloky, Andrew Berryman, Canadian Brass and the Opera North Trombone Section. They have also performed in consecutive RNCM Quartet Fests joining the famous Endellion String Quartet.

Having originated from vastly different musical backgrounds, the members of Bones Apart blend to provide a diverse ensemble. Having performed not only at prestigious events, but also at weddings, exhibitions, and given master classes, workshops and recitals, a truly versatile group.
