Christian Lindberg was voted one of the greatest brass players of the 20th century in a recent international poll. In the company of such legends as Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis and Dennis Brain, he was the only trombonist listed.
Since the world premiere of Luciano Berio's trombone concerto, Solo, with the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich in December 1999, Lindberg has performed the work with major orchestras all across the world. He continues to widen the repertoire for his instrument with commissions and premieres. In addition he has added his own contributions to the trombone repertoire with two concerti, Arabenne and Mandrake in the Corner. Lindberg's activities as a composer have been so successful that BIS Records has honored him with an exclusive portrait CD with his own compositions, played by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Tapiola Sinfonietta and Trombone Unit 2000.
In only 20 years Christian Lindberg has broken new ground on the concert circuit and proved to audiences around the world that the trombone is destined to be the solo instrument of the 21st century. Future generations of trombonists will reap the benefits of his hard work for decades to come.
