International Trombone Week

The 2011 International Trombone Week took place 3-10 April, and again there were many events to follow during the week.

How many events were there?

We enjoyed terrific participation once again this year, with at least 36 events or "happenings", including recitals, concerts, summits and symposia, a podcast, a radio show and more.

Who celebrated?

Soloists, duos, trombone quartets, brass quintets, trombone choirs, trombone studios, an orchestra and a wind symphony.

Where were the events?

Canada, Germany and the United States of America hosted events. At least fifteen U.S. states participated--more than any previous ITW-- including Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington. Please see map for a quick global view.

What was new this year?

We added two new works to the ITW Library... Colby Norton wrote a trio and Brad Edwards wrote another ITW fanfare. In addition to word-of-mouth and our web site, ITW was featured in a podcast (Tom Gibson's special episode of TromboneLessons.com ); on the radio (a two-hour ITW celebration on the show "Up the Arts" on WLRZ 99.3 in North Carolina); and via facebook, twitter (hashtag "spitvalve"), and Flickr and youTube.

What's next?

We'll publish dates for the next few years of ITW.

ITW began in 2003, making this our ninth year... so, next year is our 10-year anniversary. We are looking forward to making it an extra-special celebration. We love to hear your comments and suggestions.
