Jason Beghtol's Trombone Superhero?
Fire & Ice is a new work by Jason Beghtol for trombone trio and percussion based around a new original superhero. Jason Beghtol is the assistant band director, jazz band director, and professor of brass at Northeast Mississippi Community College. Beghtol wanted to combine two areas he enjoys, those being the trombone and the superhero story of having super abilities and choosing to do what's right when facing adversity. The percussion part involves many instruments, but is designed to be performed by one percussionist.
The hero of the story is a military prototype who was cryogenically frozen for preservation. He was fixed with a pair of bionic legs that gave him the abilities of speed and flight. During the freezing process, the parts of the body that were human were completely consumed by the ice that was to preserve him. He discovers he is able to manipulate the ice. Thus, a new hero is born with a body of ice bound to a pair of bionic legs.
The movements are set up in chapters telling the story as it progresses. As of now, there are two chapters with graphics included. More chapters are in the works telling more about the identity of the hero and introducing new characters as well as villains. You can check it out at Cherry Classics music www.cherry-classics.com.
