Kevin Hicks Wins Lead Trombone in Airmen of Note
Kevin Hicks, MM jazz studies trombonist at the University of North Texas, has won the audition for lead trombone of the United States Air Force Band Airmen of Note Jazz Ensemble. To win this high profile position, Kevin competed with stiff competition from both outside and inside the military. Kevin will be replacing Joe Jackson, a UNT alumnus. In addition, he'll be joining two other UNT alumni in the trombone section (Ben Patterson and Jeff Martin). Kevin will begin his appointment in September of this year after attending basic training. Kevin studied jazz trombone with Tony Baker this school year and with Steve Wiest during the prior two school years. He is lead trombonist of the One OClock Lab Band and is a teaching fellow in the UNT Jazz Studies area. For more information, visit untbones.com
