Buckeye Brass & Winds Trombone Day with Brian Wendel

February 24

For the third year in a row, we will be hosting Trombone Day on Saturday, February 24th. Join us for a fantastic day filled with masterclasses, performances by trombone choirs from across Ohio, and the chance to test a ton of trombones! Stay tuned for updates on our masterclass hosts and the full schedule of events.

We are thrilled to introduce our guest artist, the incredible Brian Wendel!

Brian Wendel is the Principal Trombonist of The Cleveland Orchestra, having been appointed by Franz Welser-Möst in August 2022. He previously served as the Principal Trombonist of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for five seasons starting in 2017. Mr. Wendel is an accomplished soloist and has won several competitions, including the 2021 Winds and Brass Music International Grand Prix, the 2020 Online Trombone Competition, the 2018 Alessi Seminar Asia Competition, and two 2014 and 2016 International Trombone Association competitions. His debut solo album, “This is Home”, was released on June 18, 2021, and features music representing his ‘musical home’ through works by Scriabin, Bach, Crespo, Prokofiev, and himself. Mr. Wendel received his bachelor’s degree from The Juilliard School, where he studied under world-class trombonist Joseph Alessi.

Aside from performing, Mr. Wendel is an experienced educator and has worked with students at various schools, including the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, National Youth Orchestra (USA), New World Symphony, The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music, and University of British Columbia (UBC) School of Music, among others.
