Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition
July 10 - July 15
The Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition for brass quintets is open for entries! It will be held at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, UK, in July 2023. All details can be found here: https://pjbe.org/ (https://pjbe.org/) and there will be updates on the competition’s social media pages (Twitter/Instagram, both @PJIBEC)
We have a stellar jury, comprising Pasi Pirinen, (Helsinki Philharmonic, Sibelius Academy, Alan Thomas, (Trumpet, Onyx Brass and Septura), Annamia Larsson (French Horn, Stockholm Chamber Brass), Mayumi Shimizu (Trombone, SWR Symphony Orchestra) and Jens Björn Larsen (Tuba, Professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover, Den Danske Messingkvintet).
There are very generous prizes on offer, as well as a day of masterclasses from the panel; successful applicant groups will have to find their own flights/travel, but free accommodation will be provided for them from 10th-15th July inclusive. There are also no entry fees. The closing date for video submissions is 21st March.
The inaugural competition, in 2019, provided a fantastic springboard for the winning group (Connaught Brass).
