(World Premiere) Vincent Gardner Concerto for Trombone and Jazz Trombone with the University Symphony Orchestra
April 4 @ 8:00 pm
Hill Auditorium
April 4 – 8:00 pm
Free – no tickets required
This is the final concert of the season for the Grammy-winning University Symphony Orchestra. The program features the world premiere of the first-ever concerto for two trombones, both “classical” and jazz. SMTD faculty members David Jackson and Dennis Wilson are the soloists in this new piece by Vincent Gardner, composer and trombonist of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The new concerto is a commission of the MORE (Michigan Orchestra Repertoire for Equity), the ten-year commissioning project initiated in 2020 by USO music director Kenneth Kiesler. The concert opens with the Ballade by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, and comes to an astoundingly brilliant and exciting conclusion with the stunning showpiece, the Concerto for Orchestra by Lutoslawski.
