Score and parts

Primary Genre:

This is an ambitious arrangement of the complete English Suite No.3 for keyboard in the original key. All four parts are demanding from a technical and endurance standpoint; range comprises C-d2. The top three parts share the load in order to provide some rest among themselves and make the arrangement playable. This music requires a degree of musical sophistication and style that makes it better suited for advanced trombonists. The arranger includes an alternate version of the Sarabande that could be played as a replacement or an ornamented double of the original. One could also play one or a few of the movements rather the whole suite if there is concern about endurance or stamina. Some explanation of the ornaments would have been helpful. For example, solutions for execution of trills and other ornaments, which are not really characteristic to the trombone, would have been welcome. Despite these challenges, this is beautiful music that works well for trombone quartet. Any portion of this piece will make excellent recital material.
