Score and parts.

Primary Genre: Solo Tenor Trombone - with brass

Most will already be familiar with Elizabeth Raum’s Fantasy for Trombone and Piano as a staple of the solo and recital repertoire. Dorothy Gates has taken this well-known solo and arranged it for solo trombone and brass band. The accompaniment lends itself well to the warm, blended conical colors of the brass band, and the arranger takes full advantage of the lush harmonies created by the moving lines in the original piano accompaniment with smooth overlapping lines in the band. The accompaniment is careful to not overwhelm the trombone in the more delicate moments. Overall, it is an accompaniment that will require excellent ensemble and intonation, but it is not unreasonably difficult. Given the growth of brass bands worldwide this is a welcome addition to the solo repertoire with brass band. Grade 4.
