Tired of only playing duets with other trombone players? Here is a great opportunity to expand your horizons and collaborate with other instrumentalists while playing classic literature by the masters. Ten Duets for trumpet in C and trombone is a compilation of famous pieces arranged by trumpeter Brian Neal and bass trombonist David Brubeck. Six of the ten pieces are by J.S. Bach, including Air on a G String, Badinerie, Aria from Goldberg Variations, Inventions IV and VI, and Siciliana BWV 1031. The remaining four works are Gliere’s Berceuse Op.39, Beethoven’s Für Elise, Dowland’s Flow, My Tears, and the traditional Shaker melody, Simple Gifts. The trombone part may be performed on tenor or bass trombone, as the range spans from C to b1. These duets provide great practice for the tenor trombonist’s low register or the bass trombonist’s upper register. Both parts are challenging and interesting to play with the melody being passed between players. Some of the arrangements have been transposed from their original keys to accommodate an accessible range for both players. For advanced musicians, these duets can stand alone or be grouped together for a duo recital or provide a nice contrast during a solo recital. Although arranged for trombone and trumpet in C, trombonists may also seek performance with other C instruments, such as oboe, flute, or violin.
