This forthright setting of a beautiful chorale in E-flat major takes the ensemble one time through its form. Excellent command of legato articulation is required. With well-placed dynamic markings and no tempo indication, a satisfying emotional impact is easily obtainable. Middle parts contain nice countermelody scoring. There are no breaks in any of the parts, so planning breathing, staggered breathing for larger ensembles, and controlled sustain through phrases are required for optimal performance. The melody, going up to a-flat1, is entirely scored in the first part and the other parts are accessible and reasonable. Bass and treble clef parts are included. Performing Bach brings so many rewards and this setting does not disappoint.
