Primary Genre: Solo Tenor Trombone - with piano

This work begins with a fast, rhythmic, syncopated piano part, over which the trombone plays a lyrical theme. The second section features mixed meter, challenging technique, large leaps and an angular melody. The remainder of the piece alternates short lyrical sections with more rhythmic/technical passages. The rhythmic energy remains in the trombone part in the ending, which is pianissimo and legato throughout. It begins in the low range and gradually moves up two octaves via chromatic motives and a steady eighth note rhythm.

Overall range, E to c2, and tessitura are not too demanding, but frequent wide melodic leaps in technical passages will require woodshedding. Maintaining the soft dynamics and control through the melodic leaps and technical passages presents a significant challenge. While technically and rhythmically demanding for both performers, time spent preparing the work will result in a satisfying performance.
