Cherry Classics Music has recently republished this collection of duets for any two instruments that read bass-clef. At first glance, these pieces look somewhat simple. The range comprises F-f1, with optional passages that extend the range from BB-flat to b-flat1. The rhythmic complexity of these pieces makes this a nice addition to the teaching studio. The lively, maritime tunes in standard duple and triple-meters alternate between 6/4 and 3/2 time signatures. Syncopation, changing keys/tempi and extensive use of fermata and grand pauses make it important for both players to be fully engaged. There is also significant variation of articulation throughout. Their range makes these pieces practical for use with or without an F-attachment. Overall, these pieces offer excellent sight reading material but are also beautiful, witty and fun to play.
