James Grant
Stuff: Theme with Seven Variations for Unaccompanied Trombone:

Primary Genre: Solo Tenor Trombone - unaccompanied

Originally written for solo tuba, Stuff is a lighthearted theme and variations. James Grant does a great job creating an accessible, fun-to-play piece for solo trombone. The variations contrast well and build in intensity to the end. Technical demands are reasonable, playable for the average college sophomore. Ranges are moderate for tenor trombone: F up to b1. There are fast passages but nothing outrageous or particularly challenging. Stuff is slightly reminiscent of the Malcolm Arnold Fantasy in its tonal accessibility and tuneful nature, but without the technical challenges that piece presents. Stuff will make a great addition to a student or professional recital.
