W. Jordan Y. Goto
Solo for Trombone Op.6:

, United States
Publisher: Wehr's Music House
Date of Publication: 2010

Primary Genre: Solo Tenor Trombone - unaccompanied

The young composer, W. Jordan Y. Goto, wrote Solo for Trombone as a single movement, unaccompanied piece for trombone. The work is broken into multiple sections that vary greatly in style, from Andante molto espressivo to Maestoso. This piece showcases sudden changes in dynamics, articulations, and tempo. The majority of the piece resides in the comfortable range of F-sharp to f-sharp1 with a couple sections ranging from C-sharp to c-sharp2. Goto’s markings are helpful and clearly indicate his intentions, including tempo markings for each section. Open-ended accelerando sections give the trombonist the freedom to flaunt talent; solid double tonguing technique is required for full effect. Glissandi and rips are used in the final section. Solo for Trombone exhibits the versatility of the trombone as solo instrument.
