Primary Genre: Solo Bass/Contrabass Trombone - unaccompanied

It is always exciting when distinguished composer Samuel Adler writes a new work for a brass instrument. Bravura (A Concert Piece for Bass Trombone) is no exception. Commissioned by Jonathan Warburton for solo bass trombone and completed in 2011, the work features the angular semi-chromatic, yet lyrical writing style that often distinguishes Adler’s works. Its range extends from pedal G to b2 and its dynamics range from piano to fortissimo. Half the composition contains driving, dotted sixteenth note rhythms marked “like a dance.” Although modern in style, the notation is traditional. Like Adler’s Canto II, Bravura requires flexibility, range and technical skill for successful performance. A talented college student or professional will best enjoy this impressive work.
