Dr. Roger W. Petersen is assistant professor of theory and composition at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, TX. Previous to this appointment he was professor of composition and theory at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand. He holds degrees from Michigan State University (DMA/Composition and MM/Theory), San Francisco Conservatory of Music (MM/Composition), and Sonoma State University (BFA). His compositions have been widely recorded, commercially released on a number of albums and performed internationally. In Dreams was originally composed for chorus and subsequently arranged by the composer for the Mahidol University Trombone Choir, Phil Brink, conductor. The composer stated the following about the work:
While browsing poetry anthologies, I read ‘In Dreams’ from Songs of Travel by Robert Louis Stevenson and was attracted to its striking imagery and efficient use of language which inspired a dream-like texture with interweaving voices and diatonic dissonances...

This short choral work is scored for 8-part trombone ensemble. Range and technical requirements are modest and within the abilities of an average college level group. Its tonal, rhythmic, coloristic and dynamic pallet is conservative. Prospective performers can come to their own conclusion as to its artistic merits by listening to it on the composer’s website: www.rogerwpetersen.com.
