Primary Genre: Solo Bass/Contrabass Trombone - with piano

Tom Dossett is a prolific composer whose works have been performed all over the world by well-known artists from nearly every genre of music. Formerly a composer and arranger for the United States Air Force Band in Washington, DC, Mr. Dossett is probably best known to the readers of these pages for his recent additions to the bass trombone repertoire.

Sweet Lullaby may best be described as short and sweet: a slow, lyrical work in rounded binary form with a melodic range of just over two octaves, C to d1. It is an intermediate level composition with an expressive melody that gives the impression of searching or longing brought about by ascending leaps of a perfect fifth or more, and mildly adventurous harmonies. The piece could be presented on a recital as a short, “light” piece or perhaps combined with some of Mr. Dossett’s other single movement pieces, i.e. Hyper 1, Carrousel Song, Furiant, Mamba Dance, to create a multi-movement suite.
