Spies and Villains , Phantasie for Bass Trombone and Piano is a short, exciting work  that draws on rhythms and melodic motives from spy movies or television spy shows. The recurrent 5/4 meter vaguely channels the musical theme from Mission Impossible. Trombone and piano parts are quite rhythmically challenging requiring a strong sense of pulse and groove from both players. Bass trombone range is fairly extensive, FF to f1, with passages that demand speed, agility and flexibility. In addition, large leaps of a seventh to a twelfth are common. Mr. Dossett has a long history as an arranger for television and popular entertainers and he brings his experience in these areas to create a fun and polished piece that will add a popular touch to any college or professional recital program.
