Ballad for a Lovely Daughter is a superbly beautiful and original four-part work with optional drum set. It can easily be played by a trombone quartet or trombone ensemble, and fits well into almost any concert or recital program because of its brief nature and adaptability. Written in straight eighths, this jazz work gives everyone a chance at the melody. It won’t overtax the lead player(s) either as the highest note is a1. Composed for his stepdaughter Kate, Mr. García conducted the premier of this piece at the 2010 International Trombone Festival in Austin, TX.
