Primary Genre: Trombone Ensembles - 4 trombones

El Salvador is a short, lively Latin piece for trombone quartet. Its range, rhythms, and tempo make it an ideal introduction to Latin music for young trombonists. All four parts are given in bass clef. The fourth part can be performed on tenor or bass trombone. The four parts often work in rhythmic pairs, generally dividing into the two higher parts and the two lower parts. As the piece progresses, the parts grow more complex in their rhythmic counterpoint to each other. The first part requires c2, otherwise there are no extended high register demands.

The piece does present challenges for younger players. Latin syncopation may test young trombonists, but the primary challenge is ensemble. Tempo is marked at 70; the quartet must maintain this tempo or energy is lost. Dynamics are largely left to the performers. El Salvador is best suited for younger trombonists who are working towards development of high range and mastery of complex rhythms.
