This collection of 20 duets is arranged in order of difficulty. It includes original compositions by Mr. Clark, single pieces by Telemann, Clementi, and Mozart, four inventions by J.S. Bach, and multiple contributions from late 18th and early 19th century composers Gatti, Blume, and Mazas. This volume comes under the heading of "training duets" in that they are structured to help younger players and adult hobbyists build confidence in learning when to take the lead, as well as gain familiarity with 6/8 and 3/8 meters. Most importantly, they are suitable for establishing a unified approach to style, as the musical material is evenly distributed between parts and also put forward in accessible keys and ranges. This book, written entirely in bass clef, provides excellent sight-reading material and can serve as an effective precursor to more advanced collections such as those by Blume and Blazhevich.
