Eugene Gigout’s Grand Chorus in Dialogue was written in 1881 as a solo organ work where the “dialogue” was between the foundation stops and reeds. The work has seen a number of arrangements for brass and organ. Gary Bricault’s arrangement is dedicated to the Eastman Trombone Choir and features all the “show stopping” appeal of a large ensemble with organ. It is appropriate for any festive or ceremonial occasion. The trombones are arranged in two choirs of five with alto trombone parts in the upper voices of both choirs. Both alto parts require a strong high e2 and include an awkward low passage that might be better placed in one of the tenor parts. Although there are several note and typographical errors, printing is clear and the work is completely useable. It is a good choice for college trombone choirs to use as a processional work or concert opener.
