Score and parts

Primary Genre: Brass Ensemble - 3 brass

This is a four movement arrangement of piano literature from the early years of the twentieth century. The professional trio that read this liked it from the first run through. We think it is a fine addition to the trio literature. The four movements are:

Stepping the Scale – Clark
Whispers: a Novelette – G. Barrett
Cosette – J. McDonald
Rube-Step – B. Cross

The titles should give one an idea of what this music is about. It is program material that is fun to play and has audience appeal. There are no range problems for persons who can handle the notes but the trio will need to rehearse inasmuch as there are many changes of tempo, ritardando and accelerando, especially in the second and third pieces. Tempo is also a consideration. This is not something you will sight read on the gig. The trombone player will need the F-attachment to negotiate a few low E-flats and to facilitate some rather nasty licks. The trumpet part is printed in B-flat and C. We felt the B-flat part worked better, at least for us. Unfortunately, information about the four composers is not included, which is helpful information for preparing and presenting the music. Trios - you will want this music in your library!
