Mr. Caponegro’s extensive music teaching experience at the elementary and secondary level serves him well in creating an appealing arrangement suitable for performance by younger musicians. The accompaniment deftly assists the solo line throughout the arrangement without persistently doubling the melody, while also supplying support, security and confidence for the maturing soloist. In addition to the familiar melody, musical attention is preserved through the use of engaging harmonies. The maintenance of musical momentum is sustained through the accompaniment’s gentle, rhythmic pulse. Tonal range in the solo is limited to an octave d-d1. B-flat major is the predominant key with a modulation to C major at the second and final presentation of the chorus. The arrangement includes a tempo change during a sixteen measure interlude between verses with an appropriate musical and technical challenge for the skill level of intended performer. This arrangement is both thoughtful and effective, rewarding for both the performer and listener, and a welcome addition to choices of worthwhile solos available to younger musicians.
