Primary Genre: Solo Tenor Trombone - with piano

Danish trombonist and educator Niels-Ole Bo Johansen, in collaboration with Cherry Classics Music, has introduced a new edition of Axel Jørgensen’s Romance, Op.21 for trombone and piano. Jørgensen was the first Danish composer to compose multiple works for solo trombone, of which the Romance is far and away the most popular, in part because of his friendship with Royal Danish Orchestra trombonist, Anton Hansen.

For this new edition, Professor Johansen has adjusted dynamic markings, eliminated some articulations, and amended multiple phrase markings. In addition, he has also included Jørgenesen’s original ending (a-flat, b-flat, c¹) along with the more common printed version (d-flat¹, f-flat¹, e-flat). And while all these modifications are welcome, it is the font used in Cherry Classics Music that may be most beneficial. It is unquestionably easier to read than older editions. This new version is a welcome edition to the Cherry Classics catalog, worthy for recital programs.
