Dr. Joyce Hsu is an in-demand trombonist, clinician, and teacher. A Native of Taiwan, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from National Taiwan University of Arts, her Master’s Degree from Oklahoma State University, and received her Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from Texas Tech University. She is currently a freelance trombonist, teacher, and Assistant Director of the El Paso Youth Jazz Ensemble. Her students range from elementary school through University, where she has maintained a competitive piano and trombone studio. Dr. Hsu’s students are consistently ranked among the most proficient of their peers; they are performance scholarship recipients and are active participants in TMEA All-region bands and TMEA State Solo and Ensemble Contest. Having moved to El Paso in 2016 with her husband, she maintains an active teaching and performing schedule- She often gives master classes at local high schools and middle schools; and you can see her in concerts with the Rio Bravo Trombone Quartet, El Paso Jazz Collective and The El Paso Winds.
