This popular and virtuosic solo was originally written as an instrumental interlude in Korsakov’s opera, The Tale of Tsar Saltan. Scored in B-flat minor, the highest note is b1. Many positions (and alternates) are given in the easy-to-read trombone part. Breath control and double-tonguing mastery are necessary for successful performance. The piano part provides equal technical challenge. Obviously a crowd-pleaser, this orchestration is now available as a download.
