Each April, Calgary trombonist Nathan Gingrich celebrates ITW by organizing an amazing regional celebration called Slide Into Spring.
This year’s event was virtual, of course, and full of great conversation and performances.You can enjoy some of them below.
Events included a discussion of The Trombone in the Time of Quarantine with Calgary Philharmonic’s James Scott, principal trombone, and Dave Reid, bass trombones.
The event included a concert of video submissions by local players. Enjoy them below.
- Dave Reid and his daughter Sophie performed two duets.
- James Bicigo performed his own solo work for trombone called “Corona”.
- Marshall Gilkes had been planned as a special guest, so he sent participants a greeting.
- High school bass trombonist performed Lebedev.
- Calgary Trombone Quartet performed “Andante from 3 Equali” by Beethoven and “Achieved is the Glorious Work” by Haydn.
Gingrich has started a YouTube channel for this annual ITW event, and will post information to their Facebook page.
