Kenneth Thompkins Will Premiere New Trombone Concerto in 2023


Kenneth Thompkins, Principal Trombone of the Detroit Symphony, will be the featured soloist in a new trombone concerto by Carlos Simon. According to Detroit Symphony’s website, the concerto is “based on Underground Railroad conductor William Still’s account of the hardships and struggles of the enslaved seeking freedom at any cost.” The program also includes Variations on a Theme by Haydn by Brahms and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8
